The architecture of datastores has recently added a new trick: relying on blob stores. It offers new possibilities in scale, cost, and operational simplicity by building on the current storage standard of our industry — AWS S3; and everyone has a compatible implementation. But of course, it comes with tradeoffs. This talk gives an overview of:
- How do blob stores fit into the trend of stateless, serverless, and cloud-native for datastores?
- What options for S3 compatible blob stores do you have?
- Who is using them and what are their tradeoffs or sweet spots?
